Web hosting history

Web hosting hit the internet in the early 90s. It stripped the commercial restrictions placed in the internet and created possibilities for everyone to host web pages. The era heralded a revolution in electronic commerce.

Companies soon realized the potential for web hosting and started offering services to those who wanted to host web pages on the internet. Before this, web pages were restricted to educational institutions and computer experts. However, the field grew and soon, the common man was able to access web site addresses, web pages, buy domains and create their online presence.

In the beginning, the format was different. With time, things changed and the formats were made easier. Until then even though web hosting had become a market, not everyone could use its services. The market was still very expensive and complex. Now, competition has grown and services have become so cheap that there are web hosting services available for free.

Earlier, large computer companies rented out server space. Today, web hosting has grown into an independent company. There are thousands of people selling web hosting services and millions who use them to host web pages. In just a few years, it has become possible for individuals to host their own web pages.

Web hosting market's complexities has evolved over the years. There are so many options out there that one can be inundated with information. When looking for web host, individuals are encouraged to first understand what would be best for their web page needs. For those venturing into the industry, web hosting today is worth billions of dollars.
